Youth policy in the Netherlands

This website gives information on children and youth policy, practice and provisions in the Netherlands. It covers a wide range of subjects from general information on the organization of youth policy to more specific themes and policy areas. This website is hosted by the Netherlands Youth Institute.

Since the 14th of October 2010 the State Secretary of Health, Welfare and sport, ms Marlies Veldhuijzen van Zanten Hyllner is responsible for youth policy in the Netherlands.

In the Netherlands, the term youth is applied to children and young people from 0 up to 24 years of age. Approximately 30% of the Dutch population falls into this category, and one in five young people come from a migrant background. As in most other industrialised countries, the proportion of youth in the total population is decreasing.
